VIDEO: Push on Capitol Hill for Chesapeake Bay National Park Status

Longtime efforts to give the Chesapeake Bay the national recognition it deserves are finally gaining traction. There’s a push to make the Bay a National Recreation Area, designated by the National Park Service.

It could create new potential parks around the Bay and boost tourism.

A group of lawmakers from Maryland and Virginia, along with a “dream team” of 30 Bay groups (from watermen and sportfishers to oyster restoration teams and conservationists), are getting to work on legislation to make it a reality.
