The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) confirms a 4.7 magnitude earthquake was detected in the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Ocean City, Maryland, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
U.S. Geological SurveyAccording to USGS, the earthquake was centered 136 miles east-southeast of Ocean City.
As of Tuesday night, dozens of people had already submitted responses to USGS’s “Felt Report.”
There were no immediate reports of damage. The Town of Ocean City acknowledged the earthquake on its Facebook page, posting:
The Town of Ocean City is aware of an earthquake that took place in the Atlantic, approximately 130 miles off shore and nearly 6 miles deep. Although we have seen no effects here, our Emergency Services Department has been in contact with our State partners and will be monitoring as needed.
