Coast Guard crew members at Station Cape Charles spotted a yacht going up in flames on Tuesday morning— so close by that the crew was able to respond to the fire on foot.
USCG saw the 73-foot yacht on fire around 6 a.m. Tuesday at Cape Charles Marina. They responded, along with local fire departments and the Virginia Department of Emergency Management. Fire crews from Accomack County, Cape Charles, and Cheriton, Virginia fought the fire on board the boat.
According to the Cape Charles Volunteer Fire Company, firefighters managed to keep the yacht afloat, put out the fire, and clear the scene by 1 p.m. No one was injured, and no pollution took place.
Photos of the charred vessel indicate she is Sea Sharp, a 1973 Broward Pilot House Motor Yacht out of Ocean City, Maryland. She was spotted at the Antique & Classic Boat Festival in St. Michaels as recently as last year.
