The Coast Guard and other agencies have resumed searching the water between Herring Bay and Kent Island Thursday, for a man who apparently fell overboard Wednesday afternoon.
Maryland Natural Resources Police have identified the missing man as Kevin Yates Sr., 41, of Queen Anne’s County.
Yates is described as a white male, about 6-feet tall, 180-190 pounds, wearing blue shorts and a dark shirt without a life jacket.
The Coast Guard says the owner of a 40-foot cabin cruiser, a novice, called them around 2:45 p.m. Wednesday to report his friend, Yates, was missing. The owner told USCG that Yates went below deck, and the boat owner didn’t see him for an hour. When the owner searched the boat and still couldn’t find his friend, he called for help, saying Yates must have fallen overboard somewhere between Herring Bay and Kent Narrows.
At the time, winds were reported at 25 knots with four to five foot seas.
The Coast Guard, Maryland Natural Resources Police, and Maryland State Police all launched helicopters to search for Yates, along with multiple boat crews including the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.
If you see anything in the areas south of Kent Island, please call the Coast Guard sector command center on VHF-FM channel 16, or at 410-576-2525.
