We already know the Chesapeake Bay is a star, and she’ll get the red carpet treatment when the film Expedition Chesapeake, A Journey of Discovery hits the silver screen next year.
Photo: Twitter/@visityorktownEmmy-winning conservationist Jeff Corwin and Harrisburg’s Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts have teamed up to bring audiences a feature film dedicated to exploring the many faces and places belonging to the Bay and encouraging citizens to take part in her restoration.
According to its website, the film “will be a powerful educational tool for the next generation of environmental stewards and will inspire people to learn how they can restore the health of the watershed and the estuary where they live.”
Corwin and crew were recently spotted filming aboard the schooner Alliance in Yorktown. The city’s tourism account on Twitter posted an image of Corwin on the vessel’s bow, below.
In addition to the movie, the project will include a traveling exhibit and opportunities for online learning. Through Expedition Chesapeake‘s website, teachers are invited to access “educational modules,” free of charge, to help students learn about the Bay while building academic skills. The project notes that the lessons within the modules are aligned with the standards of learning for each watershed state.
