Boat Decorating Class Kicks off Lights Parade Season

The Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade is a treasured holiday tradition in Annapolis, and believe it or not, the fun starts this week.

Eastport Yacht Club (EYC) is hosting a special boat-decorating seminar and kick-off party Wednesday evening, October 24. Past parade entrants will be there, sharing their stories and giving how-to tips on how to deck your boat deck. EYC says there will be “food, drink, and lots of good ideas.”

The first-time event is Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m at the Yacht Club on First Street in Eastport.

You don’t need to be a Yacht Club member to join the parade, which is being held this year on Saturday, December 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. The event goes on rain or shine, and only high winds would force a cancellation. Participants will be treated to brunch and an awards party after the parade. Boat owners can register right up through the beginning of December.

The parade is one of the nation’s top-ranked holiday events, and draws up to 30,000 spectators. 40 boats, both sail and power, are expected to join in. The parade circles in front of Eastport, the Naval Academy seawall and City Dock, as well as Spa Creek above the bridge.
