Boat Fire at Vera’s White Sands Under Investigation

The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s office is asking for information about a boat fire that destroyed a 45-foot powerboat on St. Leonard Creek early Thursday morning.

According to the fire marshal’s office, a waterman discovered the boat on fire around 4:15 a.m. at Vera’s White Sands in Lusby, Calvert County.

No one was injured in the fire, but flames completely consumed the 45-foot Ocean Yacht powerboat, causing $161,000 in damage. The St. Leonard Volunteer Fire Department responded and brought the fire under control in about 30 minutes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The fire marshal’s office says it originated at the boat’s stern. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Office of the State Fire Marshal, Southern Regional Office, at 443-550-6820 or 410-456-1722.
