Boat Fire on Nabbs Creek Damages Pier and Three Boats

Firefighters battled flames at a Glen Burnie, Maryland marina on Tuesday in the rain. Three boats suffered damage, including a motoryacht that was totally engulfed.

It happened around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, at Hand Brothers Marina on Nabbs Creek. The Anne Arundel County Fire Department says someone saw a large powerboat boat docked at the marina on fire and called 911.

Anne Arundel County fire crews and a Baltimore City Fire boat responded to fight the fire from the land and the water.

Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesperson Lt. Jennifer Mcallair tells us that at least two other boats and the pier were damaged as a result of the fire.

Mcallair says no one was on the boat when fire crews arrived and there were no injuries in the blaze. However, the boat owner did lose her home, according to the marina. And her pet did not make it. Hand Brothers Marina posted on Facebook, “Today hasn’t been the best day for sure,” explaining that a marina resident “lost her boat and her pet Skipper due to a fire.”

The marina writes in the most, “It will be determined as [to] why this tragedy happened.”

This isn’t the first time Hand Brothers Marina has suffered a fire at its docks. In February 2015, WBAL-TV reported on a two-alarm accidental fire that brought 60 firefighters to the scene. And in December 2021, multiple boats caught fire, prompting Anne Arundel and Baltimore fire crews to respond.

The marina changed management and began undergoing renovations in the summer of 2023, disposing of dozens of vessels, adding new decking and stringers and improving a banquet room on the property it offers for event rentals.
