Boater’s Body Pulled from Water in Annapolis

A man’s body has been found in the water off of a marina in Annapolis, and police believe he is a 72-year-old man who was recently reported missing.

Annapolis Police responded to State Street and Chester Avenue in the Eastport neighborhood on Monday and quickly determined the man may have fallen into the water over the weekend. The Annapolis Fire Department and the Anne Arundel County Fire dive team helped search for the man in Back Creek near Stella’s Stern and Keel Marina. A body was recovered.

According to neighbors at the marina, the man lived aboard his boat.

Ian Meeks, a fellow live-aboard sailor at Stella’s, last spoke with the missing man on Friday morning. Meeks tells Bay Bulletin that the man’s laptop and cell phone were left on the boat, and he reportedly never showed for an Uber ride to the airport.

For Meeks, who spends his winters on the boat in a neighboring slip, the loss hits home.

“I’m still processing all of this,” Meeks says. “My biggest fear is icy docks and cold water. Please take all precautions in the winter.”

Annapolis Police are investigating the circumstances of the man’s death.
