A Cessna plane disappeared between Ocean City and Martin State Airport in Middle River, and the search is on for the two people who were on board.

The two, Banica Richard Robinson and Marcson Ngwa, did not return to Martin State as expected and their location beacon stopped transmitting, after they traveled from the airport to Ocean City Municipal Airport Wednesday evening. They were last seen practicing “touch and gos” at Ocean City.

An oil sheen and debris from the Cessna 172 were later found in the water near the Ocean City inlet.

The Coast Guard, Maryland State Police and Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police launched a search for Robinson and Ngwa using helicopter crews, boats, and divers. One of the bodies was found, but the search had to be called off because of darkness and the approaching winter storm.

Natural Resources Police spokesperson Candy Thomson tells Bay Bulletin, the agency’s divers hoped to dive Monday to recover the second body, but sea conditions remained rough. NRP will try again to resume their recovery mission Thursday or Friday.
