Chesapeake Bay Magazine Writers Win Boating Writers International Awards

We have word that five CBM writers received significant recognition at the Boating Writers International annual meeting.
 
First and second place in the Environmental Awareness & Education category went to Marty LeGrand’s feature on the history of the Chesapeake Yates Bar Oyster Survey (1st) “Lone Tree Opposite Shore” (November issue) and Wendy Mitman Clarke’s remarkable (January 2017) “Fishing for an Enigma” feature (2nd) about the resurgence of Atlantic sturgeon in the James River.
 
Gary Reich took first in the Fishing category for “The Bay’s Tastiest Pastime,” his how-to reminiscence of classic Chesapeake crabbing methods passed on to him by his father (June 2017).
 
Ann Eichenmuller received a merit award for her “Auction Kings” story about the Yankee Point Boat Auction in the May issue. Tom Hale received merit recognition for “Shore Power Burn” about shore-power trouble and maintenance, also in the May issue.
