The bomb squad was called to an unlikely spot Thursday evening: a waterman’s home in Church Creek, Dorchester County.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal says the man was commercially harvesting oysters out in the Bay when he discovered some kind of military ordnance, and brought it home on the boat. The waterman called authorities to properly handle the find.
The Church Creek Volunteer Fire Company responded along with the State Fire Marshal Bomb Squad the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office and EMS. The bomb squad determined the ordnance was a military marine flare and safely disposed of it.
No one was hurt, and it wasn’t immeditely clear where the military flare came from.
