VIMS After Hours Lecture – VIMS in Antarctica

Every year since 1990 a team of VIMS scientists, led by Dr. Debbie Steinberg, has traveled to Antarctica in order to study and document long-term changes to the region’s ecosystem. Join Dr. Steinberg and her team that recently returned from this year’s trip as they describe their work and experiences in Antarctica. Dr. Steinberg will provide an overview of the long-term research project and explain how changes in zooplankton communities, the focus of her work in Antarctica, may have a ripple effect throughout Antarctica’s food web and our ocean’s nutrient cycle. Graduate students Jack Conroy, Andrew Corso, and Kristen Sharpe will discuss their individual research projects give us a first-hand look at what it’s like to travel to the bottom of the world!

This is the March installment of the 2020 After Hours Lecture Series. Reservations to this free, public lecture series are required due to limited space.
