A new, first-time celebration in Richmond and Williamsburg is bound to please Chesapeake Bay diners— it’s an entire week devoted to the beloved crab cake.
The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay is launching Crab Cake Week, which runs June 1st- 9th. Restaurants all over Richmond and Williamsburg, Virginia will showcase their take on crab cakes. And they’ll be serving only sustainably-sourced Bay blue crabs.
Crab Cake Week is part of Chesapeake Bay Awareness Week, and the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay hopes it will emphasize the importance of clean water to keep our favorite seafood on the table.
10% of all crab cake sales during the week will be donated to the Alliance, which supports Bay watershed protection and restoration.
The crabby event comes at a good time: last week, Virginia and Maryland announced that the Bay crab population is up 60 percent, according to the states’ annual winter survey.
