Green Drinks Annapolis is bringing its environmental-minded monthly happy hour out into nature this month, adding live music and a hands-on creek experience.
“Get to Know Your Creek” will bring together local waterkeeper organizations and the Annapolis Maritime Museum’s environmental educators for the October 17th event at the museum’s Back Creek Nature Park. Annapolis Green is partnering with the Coastal Conservation Association Maryland Chapter and Chesapeake Bay Magazine on the program.
Guests will have the chance to see Back Creek wildlife up close when the Severn River Association’s Back Creek Program brings out its sein nets to show what’s living in the creek habitat.
“Restoring the Chesapeake Bay starts with its streams and rivers,” said Annapolis Green President and Co-founder Elvia Thompson. “We all need to get to know the waterways in our back yards so we can appreciate and work to protect them.”
Boatyard Bar & Grill is sponsoring Jeff Holland and That West River Band, and SweetWater Brewing’s “Kick Plastic Pilsner” will be available, which helps raise funds for clean water initiatives, along with other drinks at the cash bar. Local seafood will be cooked up onsite. And Annapolis Green says the event will be “Zero-Waste,” with all waste being composted or recycled instead of sent to the landfill.
The Green Drinks Annapolis “Get to Know Your Creek” program is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the 17th. Admission is free, but a $10 donation is requested.
