A large-scale search is underway for a 10-year-old girl who disappeared in the water while swimming near Deep Point at the mouth of the St. Marys River.
The Coast Guard says the girl was last seen Sunday afternoon while swimming with another young family member. The two apparently lost sight of each other. The family member was rescued by a nearby good Samaritan and taken to shore.
But the 10-year-old couldn’t immediately be found. At least three helicopters launched to search for her (from the Coast Guard, Maryland State Police, and Virginia Airborne) along with boat crews from USCG, Maryland Natural Resources Police, and the St. Mary’s County Volunteer Fire Department.
The girl was lsat seen wearing a white shirt and sweatpants. Anyone with information about this case should contact the USCG Sector Maryland command center at 410-576-2525.
