The body of a man who disappeared while swimming off of the back of a pontoon boat on the Patuxent River has been found.
Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) say the body of 30-year-old Antonio Capozzi, Jr., from Wolcott, Connecticut, was recovered at 9:22 p.m. Sunday by a search diver.
NRP says eight people were on a rented 23-foot pontoon boat Sunday evening when Capozzi, Jr. and another swimmer jumped from the boat into the Patuxent near Myrtle Point Park Sunday evening. Capozzi and the other person, his co-worker at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, were swimming about 20 yards from the boat when the co-worker lost sight of Capozzi. The others on the boat started looking for him and called 911.
NRP, a Maryland State Police helicopter, and first responders from Charles, Calvert, and St. Mary’s County launched a search. Side-scan sonar was also used. NRP said an autopsy was planned for Monday at the Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore.
