Marina on Magothy River Has New Owner, New Plans

Ferry Point Marina, just inside Mill Creek on the Magothy River, is a popular spot with an even more popular waterfront restaurant, The Point Crab House & Grill. Now under new ownership, Ferry Point will also soon have a boat dealership.

Edgewater, Maryland-based property managers The Brick Companies became Ferry Point’s new owners in October. The marina now known as Atlantic Marina at Ferry Point joins the company’s two other marinas: Atlantic Marina on the Patapsco and Atlantic Marina on the Magothy (behind Dobbins Island in Pasadena). Members of any one of the three marinas can use the amenities at all of them.

Ferry Point, which dates back to the 1940s, was owned by locals Cliff Silbiger and John Kurtz for the past 12 years. When Silbiger and Kurtz were looking to sell, Atlantic Marinas jumped at the chance to take on the deep-water marina.

The Brick Companies’ marketing director, Jenna Soneira, tells Bay Bulletin that the slips at Ferry Point are 8.5 feet MLW (the average depth at low tide). “Basically any boat could get in,” Soneira explains, an advantage the other two Atlantic Marinas don’t have.

Ferry Point has more than 100 slips, along with on-land boat storage, maintenance facility, and The Point, a waterfront restaurant and bar that offers live music year-round and always seems busy. (The restaurant’s owners, Juliet and Bobby Jones, will continue to lease the restaurant space as before.)

The Brick Companies are actively seeking boat dealers, of both the sail and power variety, to join a planned dealership at Ferry Point, and Soneira says “multiple dealers” are interested.

Ultimately, Soneira tells us, the goal is to make the marina a “one-stop shop for the boating life cycle,” a place where someone can buy a new boat, have it serviced through its lifespan, and eventually sell it.

For those who prefer a boat club membership to the toils of boat ownership, Atlantic Marina at Ferry Point is one of Annapolis Boat Club’s home ports, with a fleet of NauticStar powerboats from 21 to 24 feet. Members will have access to the boats at all three Atlantic Marinas locations and the boat club’s “flagship location,” Port Annapolis Marina.

Among the changes in store for Ferry Point, some current buildings will be renovated, and the parking lot has already been made over to add 120 new spaces.

“We couldn’t be more excited to add Ferry Point to our Atlantic Marinas family,” said Lex Birney, CEO for The Brick Companies.”..More than a place to keep your boat, we work to create fun, relaxing environments for families and friends.”
