Maryland’s official flower is also its favorite cocktail in May. The Kentucky Derby has mint juleps—the Preakness Stakes has the Black-Eyed Susan.
We join Erin, a bartender at Pusser’s in Annapolis, for a tutorial for this combination of bourbon, vodka and peach schnapps with some dashes of orange juice and sour mix. But the recipe tends to change based on who’s mixing it. The drink was first served at the 1973 Preakness by the Harry M. Stevens Co., the longtime caterers at Pimlico Race Course.
