The small cruise company American Cruise Lines is bringing its brand new cruise ship, American Constitution, to the Chesapeake Bay for a new itinerary highlighting the locations that played pivotal roles in the birth of the United States.
American Constitution makes its inaugural cruise April 18, for 10 days and 11 nights. Stops will include Norfolk, Williamsburg, Yorktown, known as the “Historic Triangle,” Washington, D.C., George Washington’s home at Mount Vernon, Cambridge, St. Michaels, Annapolis, the home of many founding fathers, and Chestertown.
On board, Revolutionary War historians and re-enactors will bring the stories behind each landmark to life. Experts like Dr. Harold Cones and Don Albert will lead tours and presentations.
Guests will also have opportunities to visit Harriet Tubman’s Underground Railroad exhibit or sail on a skipjack through Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge.
The cruise line says it will treat passengers to local recipes and fresh Maryland crab during their time on the Bay. American Constitution boasts “the largest staterooms in the industry” and private furnished balconies. It carries 175 guests. It is the sister ship to American Cruise Lines’ American Constellation, which started sailing in 2017 and has now moved to the Pacific Northwest for 2018.
