The numbers are in. The Powerboating for a Cure Poker Run, held last weekend out of the Waterside Marina in Norfolk, raised $45,000.
The proceeds from this year’s event went to the Susan G. Komen Tidewater foundation for breast cancer research ($40,000) and the Associated General Contractors-Tidewater ($5,000) for scholarships.
The ninth annual event, presented by the Mid-Atlantic Powerboat Association (MAPA) was sold out in three days, with 75 entries.
One of the biggest sponsors of the event was the F. Wayne McLeskey Foundation, which owns a charter fishing boat with bright pink hullsides.
The poker run welcomes all sizes and speeds of boats, but attracts some of the fastest in the area, including Fountains, Cigarettes and Hustlers.
In its nine years, Powerboating for a Cure has raised $340,000 for breast cancer research and $45,000 for AGC scholarships.
