Pirates Arrr Coming to Yorktown!

Batten down the hatches, because pirates are headed to Riverwalk Landing and the Watermen’s Museum.

On April 28 and 29, the Yorktown waterfront will be full of swashbuckling fun for the whole family as pirates take over and teach guests a thing or two about life on the high seas.

Attendees are invited to take a Pirate Adventure Cruise with Captain Mayhem, who reportedly loves to teach young sailors how to tie knots, steer, and raise the sails. Pirates-in-training can also go to pirate school, watch a pirate trial, and dance to pirate music.

A treasure hunt will take young pirates all over town as they collect goodies including coins and jewels from a number of local businesses: Yorktown Bookshop, Watermen’s Gift Shop, the Gallery at York Hall, Schooner Virginia, Yorktown Onion, Viccellio Goldsmith, Patriot Tours & Provisions, and Auntie M’s American Cottage.

For the first time this year, event attendees can show off their finest pirate garb in hopes of winning big in the Social Media Pirate Costume Contest. To qualify, pictures must be taken in front of the schooner banner at the dock entrance, in front of Patriot Tours & Provisions, in front of the Water Street Grille fountain, or on the piers of Riverwalk with ships in the background. Participants can then upload their photos in the comments section of a “pinned post” on Visit Yorktown’s Facebook page. One child winner and one adult winner will be selected.

There will also be a boatload of other fun events around town for visitors to check out, including: Schooner Virginia tours, Yorktown Market Days, the American Revolution Museum, the York County Historical Museum, York Scenic Sunset Sails, and Yorktown Battlefield.
