If you’ve been thinking your yard needs new life, here’s your chance to introduce a new Eastern Shore tree to the family.
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) are giving away native tree seedlings Sunday, September 16 at Corsica River Yacht Club in Centreville.
Available species include mixed oak (pin and white), with a limited number of redbud, river birch, eastern red cedar and bald cypress. About 50 trees will be available, first-come, first-served. DNR asks that you reserve your tree by September 13.
Each tree is about 1-2 feet tall and comes in a one-gallon container. To protect the seedlings, DNR will also give away a free tree tube, stake, and bird net,, while supplies last, to get you started.
The giveaway is part of Corsica River Day, and is sponsored by the Corsica River Conservancy, Corsica River Yacht Club and Queen Anne’s County.
To reserve a free tree, interested landowners should contact Brittany Haas at 410-819-4120. Trees can be picked up at the Maryland Forest Service table between noon and 2 p.m. on September 16.
