A Royal Caribbean cruise that departed from the Baltimore Cruise Terminal just before Christmas returned without one of its passengers on board and emergency search crews were unsuccessful in finding him.
A 41-year-old man went missing from the Vision of the Seas during a cruise that left Baltimore for the Bahamas in December. The Coast Guard announced on Dec. 24 that the agency’s aircrews were searching for the man about 127 miles east of Charleston, South Carolina.
The Coast Guard also issued an urgent information marine broadcast on VHF Channel 16 for mariners to be on the lookout for the man. But there was no sign of him after an eight-hour-long Coast Guard search that covered more than 1,625 square miles.
Vision of the Seas just began cruising out of Baltimore in 2023, having replaced Enchantment of the Seas. It is in the Bahamas on a cruise right now, this one returning to Baltimore Jan. 6, 2024.
Chesapeake Bay Magazine is still waiting to hear back from Royal Caribbean for any comment on the case.
Anyone with information on the man overboard case is asked to call Coast Guard Sector Charleston at 843-740-7050.
