Small Plane Crash-Lands on Ocean City Beachfront

It was far from a typical evening in Ocean City Tuesday, when a single-engine plane crash-landed right into the surf near the 22nd Street beach.

Maryland State Police say the pilot of a four-seater Cessna 172RG had engine trouble and was forced to glide the plane onto the water. He wasn’t injured.

State Police identify the pilot and owner of the plane as 23-year-old Trevor Deihl, from Reedville, Virginia. He was apparently headed from Virginia to the Ocean City Municipal Airport.

A witness tweeted photos of the Cessna at the water’s edge, saying it happened right in front of his hotel. The man, Twitter user @moyerm86, posted that the pilot “looked ok, just shook up” and praised the Coast Guard and Ocean City Emergency Services for responding so quickly.

Police say the Federal Aviation Administration has been notified of the incident, and an investigation is ongoing.
