Three new grants have just been awarded to help protect the Patuxent River.
Patuxent River Appreciation Days, an annual festival in October, raised the money for the three grants. They will be awarded to the non-profit organizations CHESPAX, Historic Sotterley Plantation, and the Patuxent Riverkeeper.
CHESPAX is a program for 7th graders in the Calvert County Public school system, and will use the money to advance its STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) goals.
Historic Sotterly Plantation features school programs related to the environment an the history of the Patuxent River.
And the Patuxent Riverkeeper works throughout the watershed to engage the communities to conserve and replenish the river’s water quality.
These grants were awarded on a competitive basis.
