Trash to Treasure: Call for Artists to Transform Old Oars

Old oars, neglected and forgotten, have been accumulating at the Havre de Grace Maritime Museum for years. Now the museum is looking for artists to turn these castoffs into works of art.

The museum has teamed up with the visual arts group Philadelphia Sculptors to launch the new project. Artists who work in 3D media will get the chance to give these maritime tools new life, and to put their work on display around Havre de Grace.

During July and August, the oar creations will be placed around the city, and then returned to the Maritime Museum for a final exhibition and an auction to benefit the museum and the artists.

Interested artists can see all of the oars and paddles available for repurposing by clicking here.

There is an $18 submission fee, and accepted artists will receive a $200 stipend. The submission deadline is April 2, 2018. For more information and to apply, click here.
