A pickup truck caught fire Saturday afternoon on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, causing traffic to back up for two and a half miles.

According to the Maryland Transportation Authority, the fire started around 2:45 p.m. on the westbound span. All westbound traffic had to be held for about forty minutes, causing the backup.

The Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department and Anne Arundel County Fire Department responded to the vehicle fire. No one was injured in the fire.

The Bay Bridge Boat Show was underway not far from the incident, but Chesapeake Bay Magazine staff on site at the boat show say they weren’t aware of the fire.
