Veteran’s Day is Sunday, and the American Sailing Association (ASA) is marking the day by kicking off a year of special military discounts on its sailing courses.
For 365 days starting on November 11, active and retired military members can take ASA’s basic sailing course at a special rate.
Participating ASA schools will offer a minimum of $50.00 or 10% off of their regular “Basic Keelboat Sailing” (ASA 101) tuition to U.S. veterans and active duty military. The basic keelboat course teaches essential skills to steer or crew a sailboat, including sailing terminology, parts of the boat and their functions, basic sail trim, points of sail, and navigation rules. Students receive a certification at the end.
Many schools will be offering a greater savings than the $50.00 off/ 10% off minimum and several have sailboats to accommodate disabled students who need a more stable or custom platform. To find the specific deals for each participating school, click here.
“We believe that sailing places people in the ‘here and now’ like few other activities can,” said Lenny Shabes, ASA’s Chairman of the Board. “Immersed in beautiful, natural scenery, sailing offers a healthy and peaceful environment in which to recharge and reduce stress – something we can all use, especially our military who have given so much while defending our daily freedom.”
Veterans and active military members can also download ASA’s sailing app, SAILING CHALLENGE, for free on Veterans Day only. The app teaches sailing skills in a 3D virtual world, allowing users to practice skills and compete with friends.
ASA has more than 350 professionally accredited sailing schools around the world. Half a million people have earned certifications in its sailing courses since the association began 35 years ago.
