As Americans clamber to secure COVID-19 vaccinations, finding an appointment can be hit or miss. Availability comes in fits and spurts, and some people spend hours in the car to reach vaccination sites.
But consider those who live in the Chesapeake Bay’s water-locked communities, like Smith Island. The logistics of getting these residents access to the shot are far more challenging—especially the elderly and at-risk, who need protection the most. That’s why a team brought doses right to the island, by boat.
