VIDEO: Happy Ending for Rescued Sea Turtles

Four healthy sea turtles are back in the Atlantic Ocean, thanks to the National Aquarium in Baltimore.

The Aquarium’s Animal Rescue Team released two loggerheads and two Kemp’s ridley turtles at Assateague State Park this week, after teams successfully cared for them.

The loggerheads, nicknamed Iron and Gallium, were rescued, cold-stunned and stranded, from the shores of Cape Cod in December 2018. They were rehabilitated in Baltimore before making the trip to Assateague.

The two Kemp’s ridley turtles were rehabilitated at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, and the National Aquarium’s team released them. A crowd of onlookers gathered at the beach to see the happy ending for the four turtles. Watch below:

National Aquarium’s Animal Rescue program is responsible for responding to stranded marine mammals and sea turtles along the nearly 3,190 miles of Maryland coast and works with stranding partners through the GARS Network to help save animals year-round.
