VIDEO: Maryland Day Returns Priceless Relic to St. Mary's

On March 25, 1634, the first settlers arrived in Maryland — on St. Clement’s Island in what is now St. Mary’s County.

On March 25, 2019, people celebrated Maryland Day right back on St. Clement’s Island. And this year’s Maryland Day brought a special piece of history back to where it all started: an iron cross, believed to have been carried over to St. Mary’s County by the first English settlers, and used in the first Mass on Maryland soil.

Cheryl Costello shows us the relic that was most recently used by Pope Francis himself.
