VIDEO: New Md. Dove Sails into Forever Home in St. Mary’s

It was a sail five years in the making. The new Maryland Dove made a journey up the St. Marys River to her permanent home of Historic St. Mary’s City. This Dove is the most historically accurate version yet of the ship that brought the first European colonists to Maryland’s original capital.

Cheryl Costello was aboard one of the estimated 50 boats that ushered the vessel into port for a welcoming ceremony Sunday. Watch below:

Just announced Tuesday, the new Maryland Dove will make its first port of call in Annapolis Sept. 9-11. The public is invited to the dockside exhibit from 1- 6 p.m. Friday, September 9, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (September 10 and 11).

The Annapolis City Dock visit comes thanks to the Maryland Heritage Authority and a Multi-Heritage Area Grant. More dockside exhibits are planned throughout the year with the Maryland Dove visiting different ports of call in the state.
