VIDEO: Open Water Swimmers Train in Bay Through Coldest Months

It’s an activity that few would—or should—attempt. A small group has been driving long distances to gather at Sandy Point State Park to swim in its dangerously cold water.

Why are they doing it? They’re training for various swimming endurance events around the world. They’ve kept up their training through January and February, saying it has helped their mental health through the pandemic.

As Bay Bulletin’s Mike Schuh shows us, this challenge is too risky to try alone, and uncomfortable even for these devoted enthusiasts. Watch below:
