The wood turtle ranges from Northern Virginia clear up the East Coast, but its population is in an alarming decline, and it’s now one of the most endangered freshwater turtles in North America. The illegal pet trade doesn’t help.
But the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore is doing its part to restore these turtles in the Bay region, breeding, fostering and releasing them in the new year. Cheryl Costello shows us the babies that will be destined for the wild. Watch below:
