Wallops Island Rocket Launch Set; Boating Restrictions in Area

NASA’s Wallops Island Flight Facility will launch the Orbital ATK’s Antares rocket this Saturday morning, conditions permitting. The launch may be visible up and down the East Coast.

The Cygnus spacecraft, loaded with supplies

The Antares Rocket will carry ATK’s Cygnus spacecraft, with more than 7,000 pounds of food, clothing and experiments on board, all destined for the International Space Station.

Currently, the launch is scheduled for 7:37 a.m. on Saturday, November 11, but there are several backup dates if weather or other outside conditions prevent a launch.

In its Notice to Mariners, NASA lists all the possible launch dates and asks boaters to contact “Wallops Plot” if traveling in the area. To read more in the Notice to Mariners, click here.

People will be allowed to view the launch at the NASA Visitor Center at Wallops and its surrounding grounds. It will open at 3:30 a.m. on November 11.
