Warning: Sewage Spill Closes Carr Creek on Severn River

The Anne Arundel County Department of Health has shut down a section of Carr Creek in Annapolis because of a pumping-station sewage spill.

The emergency waterway closure stretches from the creek’s headwaters to Carrs Creek Road. Carr Creek is a tributary of the Severn River.

The health department says 41,700 gallons of sewage spilled into the creek from three manholes, located near the pumping station at the Naval Academy Golf Course on Bryant Road. The spill started on July 2nd and continued overnight.

The closure will be in effect until July 10, 201, and it applies to wimming, kayaking, paddle boarding and other direct water contact for Carr Cree.

Anyone who comes in contact with the affected water should wash their body and clothes well with soap and warm water immediately

For more information on the status of the closure, call the Water Quality Line, 410-222-7999, or click here.
