The Maryland Seafood Festival is just a couple of weeks away, and one of the weekend’s most popular eating experiences is back.
The chef demo tent features award-winning chefs cooking seafood dishes right in front of your eyes. At the end of the demonstration, you get a generous sample.
Chef demos are free with festival admission, and are first come, first served. Last year, Bay Bulletin got a spot in the tent to see Chef Jeff Eng, from Clyde’s in Washington, D.C., whip up an Asian-inspired blue catfish dish. It was a bit like watching a TV cooking show in person. Eng showed festival-goers a totally different way to prepare the invasive species that would inspire more people to cook and eat them, mitigating the population.
Eng is back in the demo tent this year, along with Chef Patrick Fanning of The High Spot in Cambridge, Chef Clifton Hoffler of Baltimore, and Chef David Ludwig, who got his local start at Reynold’s Tavern in Annapolis.

In addition to the chef demos, The Maryland Seafood Festival has dozens of other foods and activities to offer. The 51st annual festival is happening Saturday, September 8 and Sunday, September 9, in the shadow of the Bay Bridge at Sandy Point State Park.
