Two paddlers had to be rescued from the mud Sunday afternoon on Furnace Bay, after their kayak overturned near Perryville Community Park.
Gusty winds were predicted on the upper Bay when it happened just after 3 p.m. Susquehanna Hose Company and the Perry Point Fire Department sent boats to the scene, after reports of the accident came in.
Crews could see two people who appeared to be trapped in mud. The water was too shallow for fire/rescue boats to approach, but Water Witch Volunteer Fire Company’s zodiac was able to reach and rescue the paddlers. They were transferred to a bigger boat and taken back to shore to meet EMS crews.
The kayakers were expected to be ok.
