Weigh in on Lynnhaven Inlet Planned Navigation Changes

The Coast Guard wants your opinion on planned changes to the navigational markers in Long Creek, Broad Bay, and Lynnhaven Inlet.

Significant shoaling has caused concerns that the current aids to navigation are no longer accurate, and could lead boaters to danger.

USCG’s 5th District, the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), and the City of Virginia Beach propose to replace the markers with movable buoys, so they can be repositioned to best mark waterways. The planned change is part of USACE’s maintenance dredging project, which is slated to be finished in the first quarter of 2019.

The proposed changes are detailed in a Local Notice to Mariners (pages 19 and 20). To read it, click here.

The Coast Guard also asks boaters to report shoaling and damaged navigational markers in the area to the Sector Hampton Roads Command center at: (757) 668-5555.
